GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) seeks a full-time Construction & Field Survey Specialist located in Rawlins, Wyoming.
Under limited supervision, this position will perform various tasks required to formulate recommendations for the preliminary designs and construction of highway projects to provide a safe, high-quality, and efficient transportation system.

Primary job functions include, but are not limited to: Construction surveying on highway construction projects.
That will include data collection, construction stakeout, quantity collection, and analyzing data using Trimble GPS equipment, software, and Microstation/Geopak.
Observes monitors, and oversees highway and highway-related construction performed by contractors.
Review highway design plans to verify existing utilities, determine utility conflicts, contact utility companies to notify highway projects, and confirm utility conflicts.
Responsible for project documentation, pay estimates, and final contract documents.
Regularly observes work and calculates the payment of contractors.
Maintains crew diaries and logs in support of departmental record-keeping and/or contract administration activities.
Assists in the preparation of recommendations used to design construction projects.
Anticipates potential problems prior to going to contract Check preliminary plans for errors and problems.
Researches land ownership and contacts landowners to secure permission to enter their land to conduct surveys.
Checks and prepares documentation of pay items used on projects.
, Prepares monthly estimates.
Prepares and checks documentation to be sent to the district finals office.
Responsible for the final checking of project documentation, pay estimates, and final contract documents.
Assists and supports the District Land Surveyor and district administrative personnel.
Assists and supports the District Survey trainer in the preparation of construction surveying models and stakeout data.
Secondary job functions include, but are not limited to: Responsible for minor construction projects as needed.
Performs materials testing, inspections on preliminary designs, and construction of highway projects.
Field tests materials; checks work against specifications and confers with contractors, engineers, and work crews.
Verifies and documents work activities.
Ensures that materials sampling and testing are performed properly; audits material summaries for QA/QC purposes.
Communicates both internally and externally regarding project information and courses of action/consequences on larger projects.
Sets up project files and any other document books required during the construction of a project.
Keeps daily diaries of work progression and problems that may arise.
Oversees minor to more complex construction projects by documenting pay quantities, coordinating subordinates' work schedules, and working with contractors for quality control.
Prepares and updates reports as needed.
Qualifications PREFERENCES: Preference may be given to applicants with 2-4 years of progressive work experience in roadway construction methods, construction surveying, contract administration, and material testing.
KNOWLEDGE: Knowledge of project coordination and monitoring.
Knowledge in surveying, surveying methods, equipment, and the ability to apply upload and download of survey files.
Ability to perform complicated computer calculations and learn WYDOT-specific surveying practices and computer software.
Ability to interpret plans and specifications with regard to surveying.
Knowledge of engineering and computations/formulas.
Review design and construction methods.
Knowledge of construction trades and practices.
Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel Knowledge of documentation of project records.
Knowledge of communication with supervisors and contractors.
Knowledge of working towards a leadership role.
Knowledge of material testing.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Associate's Degree Experience: 0-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Construction and Field Surveying) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Construction and Field Survey Technician OR Education & Experience Substitution: 2-4 years of progressive work experience (typically in Construction and Field Surveying) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Construction and Field Survey Technician Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: None Necessary Special Requirements PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Potential exposure to hazardous waste and biological waste.
Workaround high-speed traffic and heavy construction equipment.
Work outdoors extensively in various inclement weather conditions including heat, cold, snow, and wet.
Must be physically able to bend, stoop, and lift up to 50 pounds; safely lift and move necessary materials from one point to another; ability to stand for long periods of time.
Must be available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, 365 days per year.
NOTES: FLSA: Non-exempt WYDOT will conduct motor vehicle record checks to verify a valid driver's license.

Employees would only be eligible for one (1) hiring bonus in a 12-month period.
If the employee elects to downgrade through an active recruitment and/or appointment during the twelve (12) month period, they would be required to pay the bonus back.
