Description of Work Unit

The mission of the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (VDL) is to provide timely, accurate and pertinent animal disease diagnostic services and educational outreach to veterinarians, animal industries and animal interests.
The Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory will strive to meet the goals of the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences (CVMBS) and the University through research to develop new approaches to disease identification, investigation, prevention and through education of professional veterinary medical, graduate and post-doctoral students.

edu Position Summary Colorado State University (CSU) was recently awarded funding from the National Animal Health Laboratory Network (NAHLN) to be distributed as subawards to NAHLN laboratories.
The funds were subawarded to 59 NAHLN laboratories beginning September 2023 and the award timeline spans from now until May 30, 2026.
The NAHLN plays a direct role in protecting a safe, stable, and nutritious food supply; and plays an essential role in responding to a biological attack affecting animals.
The vision of the NAHLN is to have “a network of animal disease diagnostic laboratories that works effectively as a team, provides ongoing disease surveillance, responds quickly to disease events, communicates diagnostic outcomes to decision makers in a timely manner, and has the capability and capacity to meet diagnostic needs during animal disease outbreaks.
” This position will conduct an assessment to measure the impact of the NAHLN funding on the efforts of NAHLN laboratories to uphold the vision of the NAHLN.
This position is expected to be dependable, responsible, and work independently.
Examples of decision-making processes include the following: Make management decisions on all fronts associated with this project for successful execution.
Developing optimal methodology by which to facilitate collection, record, manage and analyze data.
Guide and train colleagues amongst NAHLN institutions to acquire necessary information.
Develop and employ communication strategies to engage all subaward institutions.
Establishing timelines and due dates in accordance with stakeholders and successfully accomplish all tasks by those due dates.
Decision making on best analytical processes for application for both qualitative and quantitative assessment.
