Middle School Head Coach
Terms: This position does not qualify for benefits.
Salary is based on experience and per our Athletic Salary Schedule Column III ($3,000 - $5,100).
GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITY
The Head coach in each sport assigned is directly responsible to the Athletic Director.
The Head Coach should have a working knowledge of the rules and regulations of the Re-5J Board of Education and the athletic standards of Milliken Middle School.
The Head Coach should also be familiar with the rules and regulations of the Northern Plains Middle School League and the Colorado High School Activities Association.
PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
Teaching assignment at Weld County School District RE-5J.
If not staff, must have
successfully completed certified coaching class and be certified by CHSAA.
Successful experience in chosen coaching area.
Successful background check.
Such alternatives to the above qualification may be found appropriate and acceptable.
PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS
Must have a student focused mindset with regard to student athlete’s educational best interest.
Encourage the student body and spectators to be courteous and polite to the visiting team.
Always display good sportsmanship, winning or losing.
Maintain poise and control at all times, especially at the contests.
Teach the team to play fairly and within the rules.
Be a good host to the visiting team and their coaches.
Recommend discipline to the head coach for players who disregard good sportsmanship either on the field/floor or on the bench.
Respect the officials’ judgment and interpretation of the rules.
If an appeal is necessary, follow appropriate procedures.
Coach the team and not officiate the game.
Model sportsmanship by maintaining a respectful and professional relationship with assistant coaches, opposing coaches, officials, parents, and student athletes.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
SEASONAL
Ensure assistant coaches carry out their responsibilities.
Organize the issuance of equipment, registration of the players, and providing accurate information needed to compile eligibility lists and other reports.
Assume responsibility for care of equipment and facilities.
Assume control over athletes and teams and supervise all athletes in the program.
Organize and run practice and game day duties.
Oversee playbook, personnel management, game strategy.
Be in regular attendance at practice, and contests
Organize and run coaches and parent meetings
Discipline, when necessary, in a positive manner
Delegate responsibilities to assistant coaches
Emphasize safety and be aware of the best training, practices, and injury prevention and care
Ensure security of the school building after school hours
END OF SEASON
Organize the return and inventory of school equipment.
Recommend athletes for awards.
Recommend equipment to be purchased.
