Position Summary: Performs and assists with the monthly finance and general ledger account reconciliation processes, performs bi-weekly payroll processes, supports Finance team with configuration and running of Cooperative’s accounting systems, and documents internal accounting procedures as part of the accounting operating manual.
Ensures compliance within the system through regular audit and oversight of the processes.
Essential Functions: Completes bi-weekly payroll processes, including general journal entry preparation.
Process monthly benefit provider invoices, calculate and process monthly contributions to Cooperative 401k and pension plan, and administer adds/changes/deletions of employees from Cooperative benefit plans.
Accounting system configuration and support to the finance team Sales tax compliance and preparations of filings for review and submission to tax authorities.
General ledger account reconciliation and analysis Ensure accurate and consistent recording of intercompany transactions in AR, AP, income, and expense accounts.
Preparation of miscellaneous general journal entries Misc tax reporting & compliance Processing annual 1099 reporting Motor fuel tax reporting Audit support -prepare any workpapers or pull any documentation requested by auditors from our public accounting firm, lenders, taxing authorities, or insurance companies.
Other Duties: Participate in a wide variety of special projects.
Education: Associate or bachelor’s degree in accounting Experience: Minimum 2-4 years of experience in an accounting role or related field Reconciliation experience required.
Experience processing payroll for an organization with 200 employees Knowledge: Knowledge of applicable local, states’, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings for income, sales, use, and fuel taxes Knowledge of customer service practices and providing superior service to the organization, its customers and vendors.
Knowledge of general accounting principles and concepts with a specific focus on accounts payable and accounts receivable best practices Knowledge of the reconciliation process and how things operate within accounting systems.
Knowledge of payroll processes and ADP Develop and maintain up-to-date knowledge on the company’s financial software including advanced query skills facilitating timely and accurate data extraction.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge on GAAP and Cooperative accounting.
Skills: Excel (vlookup, Pivot Tables), Word, Outlook Solid analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on being detail orientated.
Ability to work in a dynamic environment that can sometimes be ambiguous.
Ability to prioritize projects, work relatively independently, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines (time management) on an individual and departmental basis.
Above average organizational skills, including sorting, filing, distributing.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to assess the accuracy of statements, reports, customer and vendor accounts.
